Choreographer Sheron Wray created a performance called DNA: Destiny’s Natural Ally for Black History Month 1999; performed by dancer Louise Katerega. The footage shown below was the performance held on Friday 12 November at New Walk Museum as part of Vision-Re Africa Dance – Griotgraphies.
A dance performance featuring specially commissioned pieces by Leicester born and based choreographers. Featured are the internationally acclaimed choreographer Sheron Wray (Ballet Rambert, London Contemporary Dance and now Director of Jazz Xchange); Kwesi Johnson (Phoenix Dance, Black Mime Theatre and now Director of Kompany Malakhi) and Louise Katerega (Director of Kantikoy Dance Company). The commissions will consist of three performances using locally based musicians and a new company of semi-professional dancers from the East Midlands.
